We know exactly what you’re thinking. “Wait, another post on hot dogs?” You’d better believe it! “But National Hot Dog Day isn’t until July…” That’s a fair point, but at Mighty Flame Propane Cylinder Exchange, we think that hot dogs are so terribly underrated that we’re doing our part to change the attitude around them.
Often thought of as a food to appease the picky kids at the barbecue, hot dogs have gotten a bit of a bad name over time. We reserve them for the aforementioned children with “finely attuned palates” or baseball games or as last resorts when the burgers and brats are all gone. The truth of the matter, however, is that hot dogs get overlooked. If you buy a quality hot dog to begin with, you are setting yourself up for success; if you add a great topping, you’ll be taking it to the next level.

3 More Topping to Try on Your Next Hot Dog
If you’ve been following along with our blogs for any amount of time, you’ve probably noticed that we’ve been writing about hot dogs quite a bit lately. Our last blog was about three of the toppings we think you should try on your next hot dog. Before that we weighed the evidence regarding whether or not a hot dog is a sandwich. If you need some convincing that hot dogs are great, go back and take a look at those posts; on the other hand, if you’re ready to try something new, keep reading for a few of our favorite suggestions!
French Fries
Adding a fry or two to a burger or sandwich has been a thing since…well, probably since people started serving fries as a side with burgers and sandwiches. We’re taking that same concept and applying it to a hot dog.
The best thing about this approach is that it works no matter how you like your fries. Enjoy thinly sliced fries? How about potato wedges? Maybe you prefer your potatoes to be diced and topped with some cheddar cheese? Whatever the case may be, adding some form of potato to your hot dog is always going to be a wonderful thing. And yes, we realize that the last version isn’t technically a french fry, but they’re so closely related (and equally delicious) that we felt it was only right to include this option.
Buffalo Sauce and Blue Cheese
A wonderful combination of buttery deliciousness and spicy goodness, buffalo sauce is beloved by many. Known for being a key component of chicken wings, buffalo sauce has nevertheless found its way into many other dishes. It’s a beloved ingredient, to be sure, and we have some really great news for fans of buffalo sauce–it’s really awesome on hot dogs too.
Our suggestion is to give this recipe from Dash of Sanity a try. Their recipe notes that “adding little touches to your everyday barbecue dishes can bring your party to the next level.” We couldn’t agree more, and we approach life–and grilling–with that same exact philosophy. The Dash of Sanity recipe cooks the hot dogs in the oven, but at Mighty Flame, we believe that there’s nothing better than a grilled hot dog that’s just ever so slightly charred. Toast your buns, add the buffalo sauce, blue cheese, and green onions, and enjoy! Or, better yet, top your hot dogs with buffalo sauce, place them in the toasted buns, add green onions, and dip them in a side of blue cheese. Bon appetit.
Guacamole
Everyone with a pulse loves guacamole. It just makes sense to take a beloved food like guac and add it to a good hot dog! Trust us when we say that you’ve never had a hot dog quite like this and once you’ve tried it, you might not be able to go back.
Once again, we have a recipe to suggest, and this time it comes from the pros over at Food Network. It contains a recipe for guacamole, but there’s a good chance that you already have a go-to guac recipe that you’ve perfected over the years. If not, this is a great place to start, but if you do already have a great recipe that you’d prefer to use, then do that by all means! Essentially the recipe tells you the same thing we would: toast your bun, top your burger with guacamole. The real surprise comes in the form of crumbling “cheddar-flavored ridged potato chips” over the top. We were skeptical, but the truth is that it’s nice to have the crunch that the potato chips provide. At the end of the day, it’s your choice whether or not you add them, but either way, we think you’ll be enamored with the addition of guacamole to your hot dogs.
