“Another blog about hot dog toppings?” Yes, friends and neighbors, you read the title right. In today’s post, we’d like to share three more of our favorite unique toppings to try on your next hot dog. If you missed parts one and two, be sure to go back and take a look, because you’re sure to find something that you absolutely have to try for yourself.

You see, we’re on a bit of a mission to change the perception that people have of hot dogs as the only food that their picky kids will eat or the thing you might get at a baseball game if the line is too long for a burger. The truth of the matter is that hot dogs can actually be pretty incredible if you get a brand that is known for its high quality. You can take them up a notch by grilling them properly and adding great toppings. At Mighty Flame Propane Cylinder Exchange, we have a few (more) suggestions to make sure that you have all of your bases covered. Keep reading to get a few of our favorite ideas!

3 Unique Toppings for Your Next Hot Dog

Queso

The combination of chips and queso is one of life’s most wonderful flavor explosions. Let’s be honest though–as good as the chips are, the queso is pretty much always the star of the show. And it’s with this thought in mind that we decided to try our hands at queso on a hot dog. It’s a little bit like when your mom used to cut a slit in a hot dog and stuff it with a slice of cheese, but better.

The recipe we suggest comes from Little Kitchen, Big World. If you’ve never made queso before, the thought of whipping it up on your own can be a little bit intimidating, but the good news is that it’s much easier than you’re thinking. You don’t have to settle for something that’s full of weird ingredients and comes prepackaged from the store when all it takes is a bit of effort and a trip to the grocery store for a few fresh ingredients. As the author puts it so perfectly, “These queso hot dogs are the best of both worlds – you get to eat like a kid (and aren’t hot dogs the perfect vehicle for this?) and pour hot, spicy cheese over these dogs like a boss!” Give it a try, because you’re sure to love this wonderful recipe!

Fried Egg

We don’t bat an eye at the thought of topping a burger with a delicious fried egg, so it just makes sense to give this combination a try as well. You see, we believe that a fried egg can go well with just about anything and once you’ve tried a fried egg on a hot dog, we think that you’ll agree that it’s a winning pair if ever there were one.

If you make your fried egg just a little bit runny and you toast your hot dog bun (as we suggest that you do every time), letting the bun absorb some of that wonderful egg flavor is truly a thing of beauty. Our suggestion is to top your fried egg hot dog with a bit of shredded cheddar cheese, but other recipes we’ve come across suggest adding everything from bacon bits to gravy. We have to say, those options sound pretty great as well, but there’s something about the simplicity of enjoying a hot dog, a bun, and a fried egg with a bit of cheese on their own.

Flatbread

Okay, we’ll admit that this last one isn’t a topping. Instead, it’s a twist on a classic that can help to keep things fresh. Sometimes all it takes is trying something familiar in a slightly different way to get your creative gears turning a bit. Hot dogs go on hot dog buns; it’s been that way since the beginning of time. As a matter of fact, we recently wrote out a few of our thoughts on whether or not hot dogs are sandwiches, and we have to say that when you think about a hot dog on a bun, it certainly seems to fit the definition of being a sandwich.

When it’s time to mix things up a bit, why not try a hot dog on some grilled flat bread instead? You could even combine this suggestion with some of the toppings you’ve seen in our previous blog and end up with something delicious and wholly unique. It’s a unique take on a hot dog, to be sure, and it has a bit in common with pigs in a blanket or corn dogs. Either way, we think that you’ll absolutely love the combination of hot dogs and grilled flatbread as much as we do.
