In our last couple of blogs, we’ve been going through a few of the reasons that it’s a good idea to break out your grill even in the middle of winter. You see, at Mighty Flame Propane Cylinder Exchange, we don’t mind a bit of cold from time to time. Especially when it means that we’ll be able to enjoy some delicious food as a result!

But it can be a bit difficult to feel a strong desire to throw a steak on the grill during one of your first outings. You might, however, want to work your way back up to the really good stuff with something that is a bit easier to make. If that’s the case, you’re in luck because in today’s blog, we’ll be sharing our favorite recipe for something that’s seasonally appropriate, but big on flavor. That sounds like a winning combination to us!

Easy Grilled Cheese(y)

When it’s cold outside, there’s almost nothing that does the body better than a hot bowl of soup and a gooey grilled cheese sandwich. One of life’s small joys is being able to kick back with something as simple as a grilled cheese. We’ll be elevating things to the next level in today’s recipe, however.

Of course every good grilled cheese sandwich needs to be accompanied by a great bowl of soup. We’ll leave that part up to you. Some people prefer tomato soup from a recipe that has been handed down for generations and it’s the perfect complement to a grilled cheese sandwich. Others will inevitably be set on a store bought can of potato soup because that’s what they grew up with. We want you to know that whatever soup you prefer, that’s cool with us.

As far as the ingredients for the grilled cheese go, here’s what you’ll need:

  • Regular white bread
  • Thick grated cheddar cheese
  • Mayo
  • Butter

That’s all there is to it.

Let’s Get Started

Sometimes the best things in life are simple. Sure, artisanal bread and obscure cheeses have their place and they can be downright delicious, but the truth of the matter is that sometimes you just want a classic. That’s exactly what this is.

The first thing you’ll do is preheat your grill to medium high. While you’re waiting for it to warm up, why not toss your soup into a pot and start heating it up so it’s ready to go when the grilled cheese is done? Once you’re done with that and your grill is good to go, start by grabbing a piece of white bread.

On one side, spread a thin layer of mayo; on the other side, add a thin layer of butter. Don’t go overboard here, because a little bit on each side goes a long way. Make two slices this way. Next, place your bread mayo side down on grill and immediately top each slice with a fair amount of cheese. Go with your gut on this one because the perfect cheese to bread ratio is vitally important.

A Quick Note on the Cheese

It is of our opinion that it doesn’t get any better than cheddar cheese and that grated cheese is the way to go–the thicker the better! Whether you opt to grate the cheese yourself or buy a bag of grated cheese, make sure it’s plenty thick. Trust us on this one.

Back to the grill. At Mighty Flame Propane Cylinder Exchange, we advocate for grilling up each piece separately, allowing the cheese to melt perfectly, and then bringing them together when they’re done. From there, you can slice it up however you want. Of course diagonally is the only way to go, but this step is also up to you. Cut in half, cut it in quarters, cut the crust off. It’s your sandwich, so go big!

The final step, of course, is to enjoy it. Dip it in your soup or serve it on the side, but make it a point to really think about how much beauty there is in the simplest of things. There’s nothing quite like it! When the cheese and the bread and the mayo come together, it’s truly a wonderful thing.

Wondering Where to Get a Fresh Propane Tank?

All this talk of grilling and grilled cheeses probably has your mouth watering a bit. You’re not alone and we’re headed outside to fire up the grill as we speak. If you’re in the mood to do the same, but you’re fresh out of propane, we have you covered.

With Mighty Flame locations around the country, there’s always a propane tank exchange location near you! Just swing on by and grab one and before you know it, the taste of melty cheese will be putting a big smile on your face. We can pretty much guarantee it.
