With Halloween right around the corner, there’s never been a better time to start thinking of spooky meals to enjoy with your kids. We’re not saying that you should rush out and dish up some worms in dirt or anything like that (although some chocolate pudding, oreo cookies, and gummy worms might make the perfectly themed Halloween dessert!). Instead, the team at Mighty Flame Propane Cylinder Exchange has put together a few of our favorite ideas for main dishes that you can enjoy at this time of year.

Not exactly sure how this is all going to work? Not a problem because we’ll walk you through it step by step. Keep reading to get a recipe idea or two that you and the kids are sure to love!

Grilled Squash With Rice

Let’s start out with one that’s sure to be a hit. For this dish, grab yourself a butternut squash, cut it into small slices, and season with a bit of salt and pepper. Be sure to oil the grates on your grill so your food doesn’t stick or this could end up being a literal nightmare where you’re scraping off food that’s stuck instead of enjoying a delicious meal. Grilling your squash will help to bring out the flavor you’re going to love while also adding some beautiful grill marks.

Next, make one cup of rice following your normal recipe. We like to add a bit of salted butter to really give this dish some wonderful flavor. When your rice is done and your squash is tender, throw it all together and stir. Top with a bit of fresh thyme and enjoy the wonderful combination of fall colors!

Grilled Green Beans with Slivered Almonds

How are green beans a Halloween treat you ask? Just wait until you’re done making it and take a look at how these colors come together so perfectly! Start by seasoning your fresh green beans with salt and pepper and coat them with a bit of olive oil. You can either prepare them directly on the grill or steam them in a foil packet if you prefer. Cook until they are tender.

Next, heat a bit of oil on your stove and add minced garlic, thinly sliced carrots, and slivered almonds along with salt, pepper, cayenne, and some ground ginger, cooking for just a few minutes.  Combine with green beans, serve immediately, and top with some fresh orange zest. Finally, step back and take a look at your dish that perfectly represents all of the best colors of Halloween!

Bonus tip: serving both of the dishes above at the same time is a great idea because they pair together perfectly and complement one another quite well!

From pizzas to sandwiches to Thanksgiving turkey, we’ll be grilling well into the fall and even into the winter when we’re able to. (Oh yes…and more on that grilled Thanksgiving turkey in a future blog, so be sure to keep your eyes peeled for that!)
