If you find yourself in the same boat as us, first of all, welcome aboard! We’d be glad to share a bit of what we’re eating and share a recipe or two with you.

Lately we’ve been enjoying a nice cup of hot chocolate each evening. It’s the perfect way to treat yourself while simultaneously unwinding at the end of a long day. But what goes well with such a delicious beverage? That’s the topic of today’s post, so keep reading to find out!

A Few Things to Enjoy With Your Next Hot Chocolate

Grilled Chicken

Some simple grilled chicken will complement your hot chocolate nicely. An article on The Spruce notes that “an important thing to keep in mind with any drink and food pairing is that you want to complement—not match—the foods you’re pairing.” That’s good advice in general, but it is particularly true in the case of finding things that go well with hot chocolate.

The same article goes on to mention that “salty foods act as a foil to hot chocolate’s intense sweetness,” but that you should steer clear of “salty snacks, as they will clash with the richness of cocoa.” Grilled chicken seems to be the perfect way to complement your hot chocolate with some saltiness. Chocolate also pairs well with a bit of a kick, so you can add some cayenne pepper to suit your personal tastes.

Keep it simple, add an easy side dish, and you have all of the components you need for the perfect meal that’s big on flavors that complement one another well. Plus you get to enjoy some hot chocolate and that’s always a big plus!

Grilled Orange Skewers

At Mighty Flame Propane Cylinder Exchange, we are huge fans of throwing fruit on the grill. As a matter of fact, if you take a look at our blog archive, you’ll find that we have shared a handful of recipes on grilling apples. While grilled apples are incredibly tasty, we wanted to try something a bit different, so we reached for our oranges.

If chocolate and oranges sound like an odd combination, trust us when we say that you have to give it a shot! This recipe is a little reminiscent of the chocolate orange candies that sometimes show up around the holidays that you have to slam onto the table before opening them up to ensure that all of the pieces are the right size.

Rich in vitamin C and big on citrus-y flavor, we think that grilled oranges are a wonderful addition to any griller’s repertoire of interesting foods to try on the grill. If it sounds like a challenge, believe us when we say that it’s actually much easier than you might think! Simply rinse your orange and then start cutting it into slices, leaving the peel on. Grill over medium-high heat for a few minutes per side, let them cool a bit, and tear the peels off. After that, you’re free to dig in. It’s the perfect way to take your hot chocolate to the next level.

Bonus idea: Serve your freshly grilled orange slices with vanilla ice cream and experience hot and cool and sweet and citrus-y all in one go.

Peanut Butter S’mores

And last but not least, what goes better with chocolate than peanut butter? It’s almost like they were made to be enjoyed together! That’s why we’d like to advocate for making your s’mores on the grill. We’ve discussed a few of our favorite grilled s’mores recipes in the past, but we’re happy to reiterate.

If you’ve ever made s’mores in front of a campfire, it’s a similar process, but you’ll be working with your grill instead of having to go to the hard work of starting a fire in your yard. Instead, simply fire up the grill, skewer up a few marshmallows, and start roasting! The finished product will be slightly different than your standard fare, however, because we’ll be omitting the chocolate (since we have that in our hot chocolate) and simply spreading a bit of peanut butter on the graham crackers. This allows the peanut butter to melt just a bit when the toasty marshmallows make contact.

Take a bite, enjoy the flavor, and rinse it down with a swig of hot chocolate. It’s a winning combination that makes for the perfect way to treat yourself at the end of a particularly challenging day at the office. You deserve to treat yourself a little bit, so why not go big, right?
