Dread it. Run from it. Destiny still arrives.
Okay, yes, that is a quote from Avengers: Infinity War, but it applies to having to clean your grill too. That’s right–as little as you want to scrape the gunk and grime off of your grill and give it a good deep clean, it still needs to be done, and now is the perfect time of the year to do it!
“But isn’t that why I bought that grill cover? So I don’t have to clean my grill?” you ask. Sure, but at the end of the day, the truth is that you’re going to drastically expand the lifespan of your grill if you’re willing to put in a bit of sweat equity and keep it nice and clean. You certainly don’t have to go overboard and make sure that every square inch of the grill is spotless (unless you want to, of course, and if so then go for it by all means!), but it is important to give your grill a good deep clean about once a year.
Never cleaned your grill before? Not to worry, because the team at Mighty Flame is here to help! In today’s post we’ll highlight a few of the things that you should keep in mind throughout the process as well as share a few tips and tricks to make your life just a little bit easier. If you’d like to get your grill nice and clean, keep reading to learn more!
Might As Well Take Care of It Now
There are plenty of practical reasons to keep your grill clean, you know. Sure, you probably use a grill brush to scrape the gunk off of the grill grates each time before making a meal and that’s a wise thing to do, but one of the biggest benefits you’ll get from cleaning your grill is that you know your food is going to come out clean instead of covered in leftover grease and dust. No one wants that!
A properly cleaned and maintained grill also means that you’re going to be safer. Grease is a natural byproduct of many of the foods that we enjoy eating the most and if you’ve ever seen a flare up that was caused by excess grease then you know how scary it can be. Keeping your grill clean ensures that this is a problem you won’t have to deal with.
Here’s What You’ll Need
You probably have all of the things you need to clean your grill on hand so all you have to do is corral all of those items together and take them out to the grill. Here are a few of the things that we keep around:
- Cleaning gloves
- Spare rags
- Your grill brush
- A roll of paper towels
- Dish soap
- Water
- Stainless steel cleaner
Our recommendation is to keep your owner’s manual handy so you can reference it when you are disassembling and reassembling your grill. Follow all of the safety precautions laid out therein and take notes if need be. Lost your owner’s manual? Look it up online and print out a copy, then store it somewhere that’s easy to access.
If you’ve never cleaned a grill before we’d also recommend checking out YouTube videos that can walk you through the process visually. At the end of the day, sometimes it’s being able to see how someone does something that gives you the confidence to do it yourself. Like we mentioned above, just be sure to consult the owner’s manual for your specific make and model of grill and use common sense to get the job done.
