If you’ve been grilling for any amount of time, you’ve probably had a bit of a dilemma in figuring out how to grill certain vegetables. Grilling things like corn on the cob is a breeze no matter what approach you take. Tossing it directly on the grill after boiling it? No problem! Grilling the corn while it’s still in the husk? Easy! Something like asparagus on the other hand? Well, that’s a vegetable that could fall through the grill grates pretty easily with even the lightest of breezes. What’s a grilling enthusiast to do, you ask?
Chances are that you’ve wrangled up a foil packet or two in your day, and that’s a perfectly fine solution to an incredibly common problem. At Mighty Flame, there’s nothing we love more than offering grilling tips and techniques to make your job at the grill just a little bit easier. That’s why in today’s post, we’ll take a look at grilling baskets and whether or not you could benefit from adding a few more grilling accessories to your collection. Keep reading to learn more!
Why Upgrade When Foil Does the Trick?
You might be asking yourself why you should spend the extra money on a grilling basket if using tin foil gets the job done. That’s a great question, and the answer is that you certainly don’t have to. If you’ve already perfected a method of grilling the vegetables that you like to eat, there’s no need to invest in a grilling basket. After all, why try to solve a problem that doesn’t exist?
On the other hand, if you have been left feeling a little less than satisfied with your current methods, a grilling basket might make perfect sense. For example, maybe you’ve wanted to grill up a handful of cherry tomatoes to add to a salad. The foil packet warms them, but what about when you’re in the market for grill marks to add a bit of extra texture to your dish? Or consider again the always-popular grilled asparagus. It seems like the stalks end up falling through the grates of your grill if you look at them wrong. A grilling basket solves that problem perfectly.
What Can You Use a Grilling Basket For?
You know how well diced potatoes go with a steak? Or how perfectly green beans go with grilled salmon? All too often, people end up bouncing back and forth between the grill and the kitchen to make a complete meal. The juggling gets old pretty fast, if we’re being honest. It just makes much more sense to tackle each portion of the meal at the grill if at all possible.
Of course, it’s also a big hassle to deal with the stove in any capacity whatsoever when it’s super hot outside. Why not just use the grill for everything and forego creating a mess in the kitchen? It sounds like a win/win solution to us, if ever there were one.
The folks at Epicurious wisely point out that grilling baskets are the ideal barbecue grill accessories for everything including “scallions, mushrooms, broccoli florets, and sliced onions.” We couldn’t agree more. They also point out that the use of a grilling basket also means you don’t have to worry about skewers, and depending on your method for skewering, that could mean that you no longer have to deal with buying wooden skewers and soaking them in water for half an hour before they go on the grill.
A quick trip to Amazon will reveal a number of different grill baskets that are up to the task of making your grilling experience just a little bit easier, and at the end of the day, grilling is supposed to be the thing that relaxes you and makes your life more enjoyable.
So, at the end of the day, do you really need a grilling basket? It’s up to you entirely, but many of them are available for purchase at pretty low prices. When you really think about it, the cost of foil adds up over time, so you could save money in the long run if that’s a concern. Our advice is that it’s a grilling accessory that’s inexpensive enough that it’s worth a try. If you love it, then it was worth the small investment; if, on the other hand, you don’t care for it, you can give it to a fellow grilling enthusiast or donate it. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, as the old saying goes.
