It’s a thought that everyone has at some point. “Maybe I should buy a grill. It would be perfect for dinner with the family and backyard barbecues. But where do I start?” If you’ve ever asked yourself that question, you’re not alone.
Luckily for you, at Mighty Flame, we’re here to help. Step one: buy a propane tank. Step two: follow our recipes and start cooking.
Our goal with our latest series (entitled “Buy a Propane Tank and Start Cooking”) is perfect for beginners who are buying a propane tank for the first time and for those who have been grilling out for years. The purpose of these blogs is to provide simple, easy-to-follow recipes that anyone can make with ingredients from their local grocery stores.
There are no advanced cooking tactics and no ingredients you’ve never heard of. Instead, we focus on providing recipes that anyone can make even if their experience with a grill only involves getting cooked food off of it.
Buy a Propane Tank: Check. Grill Dinner: Check.
We’re pleased to say that thanks to the response to the first few blogs in our series, we’ll be making this a regular thing. When you need simple recipes for your grill that don’t skimp on the flavor, this is the place to visit.
So you’ve purchased a propane tank and made grilled cheese on the grill, beef tenderloin, and pork chops (and if you haven’t, you can find those recipes here). What’s for dessert? Is it even possible to make a dessert on the grill? Turns out it is, and it’s even easier than you’re probably thinking.
The grill should be heated to a nice medium-hot to totally hot temperature for each of the recipes in today’s blog. Without further ado, let’s get started!
Fruit in a Bag
Grab a section of tin foil, fold it in half, and then create a miniature bowl. Fill this tin foil bowl with sliced peaches and apricots. Add 3 tablespoons of butter placed evenly throughout the packet. Juice a lemon and add the liquid to the bag along with just a touch of salt to bring out the flavors.
Seal the bag as tightly as possible and grill for 10 minutes. Open tin foil packet, being careful to allow trapped steam to escape. Let cool for a few minutes, then distribute the contents among a few bowls. Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm.
Grilled Pineapple
Cut pieces of pineapple into large chunks and set in a bowl. Toss pineapple chunks in 2 tablespoons of honey, a dash of canola oil, a squirt of lemon juice, and a dash of cinnamon.
Grill over high heat for about five minutes per side or until nice, dark grill marks appear. Serve while still hot on their own, drizzled with honey, or with vanilla ice cream on the side.
Peanut Butter S’mores
A modern classic adapted for the grill, for this recipe, you’ll need graham crackers, marshmallows, and peanut butter cups. It’s the perfect departure from the norm that culminates in the perfect combination of gooey textures, warm temperatures, and delicious flavors.
Place two graham crackers on the grill, away from the heat, being careful that nothing falls between the grate. Add one peanut butter cup to one graham cracker and leave the other to warm. The goal is to melt the chocolate, but not burn what you’re working on. Keep your graham crackers and peanut butter cups near indirect heat.
While they’re warming, heat marshmallows over direct heat until sufficiently gooey. Combine all ingredients into peanut butter cup s’mores. Serve warm and prepare yourself to be at the grill for the rest of your night as the guests keep asking for more, but be sure to set a few aside for yourself!
Banana Splits
To make the perfect banana split, soak halved bananas in rum in the refrigerator overnight. In the morning, remove from rum and let stand on pan in the refrigerator all day. When evening rolls around, grill the banana halves over high heat for about one minute per side.
Immediately plate the grilled bananas and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a scoop of chocolate ice cream, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Garnish with peanuts, powdered sugar, and whipped cream on top. It’s as simple as that.
