Don’t Forget to Grab a Fresh Propane Tank

The first thing to do is find a propane cylinder exchange location near you and luckily for you, dear friend, there are Mighty Flame locations aplenty all across the Eastern U.S. with more locations being added all the time. If you want the best propane at a price that’s fair to you, look no further than Mighty Flame.

Having said that, you should also take stock of the ingredients listed below and hop in the car for a quick grocery run. Once you get back, we’ll get started on making one of the absolute best burgers known to man. And it all came from a simple brainstorming session! Who would’ve thunk?

Swing by the Grocery Store

Making a grilled ham and cheese burger is fairly straightforward, but trust us when we say that it’s a flavor experience you’ll be clamoring for every time you fire up the grill. Its simplicity makes it a breeze to make; combine that with the overwhelmingly good flavors present in this burger and we think your afternoon or evening is about to get a just a bit better.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Plain white hamburger buns
  • 80/20 ground beef
  • Thinly sliced ham (ask someone at the deli counter instead of purchasing a package)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese
  • Provolone cheese
  • Butter
  • Potato chips (plain old kettle cooked chips with sea salt ought to do the trick just fine)

It’s as simple as that! Heck, you might even be lucky enough to have most of that stuff in your home, shortening your trip to the grocery store (which is something that nearly everyone on the face of the planet is likely just fine with). After all, the less time you have to spend in the grocery store means the sooner you’ll be chowing down on this delectable burger that’s sure to soon become a staple in your grilling lexicon. Before you know it, it will have become like an old friend. It’s a trusty standby that you can make for yourself on a Tuesday after work or you can scale it up and cook for a crowd during a weekend lunch.

Let’s Get Started

To start, preheat your propane grill to the old reliable of medium high heat. You’ll want to give it about twenty minutes or so to get nice and hot, which is great because we have a little bit of prep work to do in the meantime. First off, you’ll start out by forming your burger patties, adding a bit of salt and pepper, and letting them get a touch closer to room temperature.

Next, break out the butter and lightly go over the inside of your hamburger buns to ensure that they can develop a nice, golden-brown crispiness to them (much like a slice of toast on a grilled ham and cheese sandwich). Some people will opt to also spread a layer of mayonnaise on their buns at this point, but that’s a decision we’ll leave up to you entirely. I guess it all depends on how your mom used to make them, right?

Throw It on the Grill

It’s kind of like this, but way better.

Your next step in the process is to actually throw your meat on the grill. If you have a second tier on your grill, this is the perfect place to spread out your ham, allowing it to get nice and warm. If you prefer grill marks on your ham, a minute or two on each side should do the trick, and then you can transfer your ham to another part of the grill. Don’t have another rack? The cool side of the grill should be just fine.

Next up, cook your burgers to your desired temperature. On your last flip, add a slice of cheddar and a slice of provolone. Now is a great time to add your buns to the grill, toasting the inside until it looks nice and golden brown.

Once they’re done, add your sliced ham to the top and the bottom of the patty and sandwich it all between your freshly toasted buns. And that’s all there is to it! From there, you can either enjoy your chips on the side or toss them directly on your burger (you know, like you used to when you were a kid). Serve with a cup of tomato soup and revel in the deliciousness of the grilled ham and cheese burger!

Enjoy!

It’s one that’s sure to be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Speaking of which…we’re going to head on over to the grill and make one right now. It’s kind of a miracle that we made it all the way through this blog without stopping for a grilled ham and cheese burger break, to tell you the truth. There’s just something about it that’s so alluring. Perhaps is the combination of salty ham, melty cheese, and juicy hamburger. Maybe it’s just that we’ve taken a common burger up a notch. Whatever the reason, we can tell you wholeheartedly that we’re really looking forward to hearing what you have to say about this burger!
