Buy a Propane Tank, Buy a Pot, and Get to Cooking!

Did you know that you can essentially use your grill in the same way you’d use a burner on your stove inside of the house? It’s not common, but when done right, it can add a whole new dimension to your cooking. You may even be fortunate enough to have a grill with an extra burner included on the side specifically to be used that way.

A few things to keep in mind are that you should always keep the lid of your grill open if you’ll be cooking with a pot and to use a wooden spoon to do any stirring. Other than that, you’re all set!

Not quite sure how to put a pot to use on your grill? Not a problem, because by simply following today’s featured recipe for Etouffee, you’ll be grilling on the grill and using a pot at the same time, providing you with plenty of experience so you can start formulating your own recipes in no time at all.

Our Must-Try Sausage Etouffee Recipe

This recipe is one that’s surprisingly easy to master, ensuring that you have a delicious dish that teaches you new cooking abilities. A bonus, and a staple of each of the recipes found in our blogs, is that it’s incredibly easy to make. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • Your favorite sausage links
  • One diced onion
  • Three diced cloves of garlic
  • Three diced pieces of celery
  • One large diced bell pepper (red, yellow, or green work perfectly)
  • Two cups of water
  • ⅓ cup flour
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper
  • White rice

As you can probably imagine, these ingredients come together perfectly to create a dish that’s full of flavor. An added bonus is that it’s great right after you make it, but it also seems to get better and gain more flavor if it sits in the fridge for a couple of days, making it a perfect meal to pack for lunch.

Start by preheating two of your burners to high heat, then cook both your sausage links and your chicken until they’re done. Your other two burners should be preheated to medium heat. Go ahead and set a small pot on your medium burners and add your canola oil, being sure to heat it all the way through. Next up, add the flour and cook for a few minutes, stirring constantly.

Add your vegetables next, cooking until they’re nice and soft which generally takes between four and six minutes depending on the size of each piece.

In the meantime, cook your rice indoors on the stove however you normally make rice. When it’s done, season it with salt and pepper and your favorite hot sauce, then set it aside.

Next simply cut up your sausage and your chicken into bite sized pieces and add them to your pot. Cook for a few minutes, then add in the two cups of water. Allow this to simmer until the liquid reduces, stirring frequently, and you’re all set. It’s as simple as that!

Season everything with salt and pepper and serve your stew mixture over rice and you’re done! This is a great recipe to make any time of the year thanks to its simplicity. Everything comes together to create a flavor that’s just to die for. It’s a great way to put your grilling skills to use to make both the sausage and the chicken (adding another great layer to the depth of flavor already prevalent in this dish) and the stew brings it all together for a meal everyone in your family will love.
