When people think about grilling, their minds are usually filled with thoughts of tasty meats and zesty barbecue sauces. One thing that doesn’t come to mind, however, is bread.

“Grilled bread?” you ask. You read that right, and we’re pretty confident that it’s going to quickly make its way into your grilling rotation. After all, having a simple go-to bread recipe in your arsenal can come in handy for everything from unique burgers to a luxury grilled cheese. Or it can be a quick snack that you toss in your bag to take to work with you.

It starts with a propane cylinder exchange.

Wondering where to fill a propane tank? Find a propane cylinder exchange location near you, grab a fresh propane tank, swing by the grocery store to pick up a few ingredients (you may be able to skip this step depending on how well you keep your pantry stocked), and then head back here to grab our delicious grilled bread recipe!

A Grilled Bread Recipe That’s So Simple to Make

All it takes is 2 ¾ cups of all-purpose flour, a dash of salt, a pinch of sugar, and a tablespoon of instant yeast. Combine your yeast with sugar and salt along with about a cup of medium-hot water. The key to get a great texture on the finished product is letting everything sit for a few minutes. A couple of minutes in a warm location should do the trick.

Next, gradually stir in your flour until everything is combined thoroughly.

The hard part is over! All it takes now is letting your bread dough rise for an hour or so. Be sure that you’ve covered the bowl your dough is in to allow it to rise properly.

Your next step is to fire up the grill over the go-to heat (medium-high) and let things heat up. While the grill is preheating, begin the process of kneading your dough on a floured surface. Don’t hesitate to really knead it out, getting rid of lumps and making sure that the end product is smooth.

From there, separate your dough into 10 or so pieces depending on how large you’d like the finished product to be. If you’ll be using your bread as a bun for your next batch of burgers, 10 pieces is just about the right size, but feel free to experiment.

Next, brush your bread with plenty of olive oil on each side, then transfer the dough to the grill, allowing them to cook to get golden brown before flipping to the other side. It’s as simple as that. Top with your favorite cheese, store the remainders in a container, and you’re all set.
