In our previous blog, we discussed the wonderful feeling that always accompanies the realization that fall is near. Fortunately for you, the team at Mighty Flame Propane Cylinder Exchange is here to provide you with grilling tips, tricks, and recipes to help you make the most of your propane grill even as summer starts working its way into fall.
Are we going to be sharing recipes for pumpkin spice burgers and apple cider grilled tacos? At this point, the answer is no (but that does sound like an interesting challenge…). We are, however, going to provide you with a recipe for both dinner and dessert that is comforting and starts to introduce a few of the flavors that fall is known for. Without further ado, we present our recipe for grilled spaghetti squash! Be sure to stay tuned for a quick and easy dessert recipe as well.
Here’s What You’ll Need
Lasagna is always a much-loved dish with the Mighty Flame crew, but because we’re always looking for ways to mix things up a bit, we thought we’d introduce a few new flavors. Here’s what you should pick up from the grocery store:
- Spaghetti squash
- Olive oil
- Ground beef
- Sage
- Basil
- Tomato sauce
- Mozzarella cheese
- Ricotta cheese
- Parmesan cheese
To start, preheat your grill to medium high, then simply cut your spaghetti squash in half, get rid of the seeds, then put it face down on a plate and microwave until somewhat soft. Next, brush the inside with a bit of olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Cook on your spaghetti squash on the grill until it is fully cooked and tender. In the meantime, prepare your ground beef, cooking until done. Drain off all of your grease, then add your ground beef back into the pan. To this, add a bit of sage and basil, and your choice of tomato sauce. There are plenty of options to choose when it comes to tomato sauce and you are more than welcome to use anything that sounds good to you. As a matter of fact, you may already have a favorite sauce to use in your standard lasagna recipe and that would work just fine. Our personal preference is that we highly recommend using something that’s chunky and full of a nice garlic-y flavor.
Let’s Move On To The Next Step
Next, add a layer of your mixture of ground beef and sauce into your halved spaghetti squash, followed by a layer of ricotta cheese, and then mozzarella cheese. Depending on how deep your squash is, you can repeat this just a few times or several times. Be sure to leave a bit of room on the top so that you don’t end up with your sauce bubbling over and creating a mess in your grill!
You may want to use a baking sheet to finish cooking these on your grill, but simply throw them on the grill, close the lid, and then check in regularly, removing your dish when it’s done and the cheese is nice and bubbly and golden brown. Generally speaking, this takes about 25-35 minutes, but your grill may be different, so check occasionally. The final step is to serve them and you can do this either in the squash itself of you can scoop the contents of the squash’s husk out into a bowl and enjoy that way. Don’t forget to top with parmesan cheese. Serve hot and enjoy!
Now For Dessert
We promised we’d be bringing you a bit of dessert that incorporates fall flavors as well. Is there anything better suited than caramel apples? We think not, and we’re going to be making ours on the grill. And trust us when we say that it’s even easier than you might think!
Here’s what you’ll need for dessert:
- Apples (we recommend Granny Smith apples)
- Caramel topping
- Aluminum foil
All you need to do is cut your apples into wedges and place them in the aluminum foil. Next, spoon a bit of caramel topping onto your apples and use a spoon to spread it around, ensuring that you end up with each piece of apple coated perfectly.
From here, all you need to do is close your aluminum foil into a packet and cook over low heat for about ten minutes. Remover your packets from the grill, open carefully, and serve them while they’re nice and hot by themselves or add them to a dish of vanilla ice cream for something a little different. The final step? Enjoy them!
