Without further ado, get ready to enjoy the…
Peanut Butter and Jelly Burger!
We know, we know. A number of the people reading this blog may have just decided to give up on this one, but before you go, take a look at the recipe to see how easy it is and then give it a try. Who knows? You just might love it!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Ground beef (80/20 keeps things nice and moist)
- Brioche buns
- Butter
- Natural peanut butter
- Your choice of jelly
- And salt and pepper.
There’s a good chance you already have most of this tucked away in your kitchen, so there’s nothing to lose! Expand your horizons and enjoy a more grown up version of your favorite childhood lunch.
Fire Up Your Grill
Start by heating your grill to medium-high (hopefully you already handled that propane cylinder exchange). Grab your ground beef and transfer ⅓ lb. chunks lightly back and forth between your hands, forming a burger shape. Salt and pepper both sides, then move to the grill over direct heat. After a few minutes, flip your burger and allow it to cook for another two to three minutes. From there, transfer your burger over to indirect heat, turning once more.
While your burger finishes up, lightly butter the insides of your brioche bun, then apply to direct heat, allowing your bun to cook up to a nice golden brown. Make sure it’s slightly crispy, but not overdone.
The Peanut Butter
The natural peanut butter is the real highlight of this burger. If you’ve never bought natural peanut butter before, you may be surprised to find that there’s a layer of oil on the top. The can’s instructions will mention that you should stir the oil into your peanut butter, but for the purposes of this recipe, all you’ll need to do is dig past the layer of oil, because it will benefit our burger to have peanut butter that’s a little drier as it will be easier to work with. Spread it thinly over the top half of your brioche bun.
The Jelly
As for the jelly, feel free to use whatever you prefer. Jams, jellies, and preserves all do the job. Some people will prefer grape, others raspberry, and others still will enjoy strawberry. (Bonus tip: to add a bit more flavor, a pepper jelly can make a great addition to any PB and J Burger!) Apply the desired amount directly to your burger.
Other Toppings
And that’s it! Unless, of course, you prefer any other toppings. Personally, we suggest just going for it as is and allowing the simplicity of the burger to really shine. Others may prefer to add a slice of cheddar cheese to the top of their burgers for some additional depth of flavor. The beauty of this dish, however, is that it’s entirely up to you! Whatever you think sounds best on this burger is what you should add. We’ve heard of people adding everything from minced garlic to green chilis, so feel free to be adventurous and have fun.
