It’s pretty much inevitable that at some point or another in your grilling adventure, you’ll decide that you ought to give kabobs a try. Perhaps it’s because you have a big outdoor party planned and you’d like to be able to feed all of your guests a little something without having to make everyone burgers and brats. Maybe it’s because you feel you’ve hit a bit of a rut and you want to try something different than barbecued chicken again. Either way, you’re in luck.
You know, there’s a real art to grilling a kabob that’s not always perfectly apparent. How hard could it be, after all? You just skewer some stuff and throw it on the grill. That’s all there is to it, right? Well…kind of. But to create a really delicious kabob, you need to spend a bit of time and thought before you just jump in head first. Mighty Flame to the rescue!
In all of our time spent in front of a grill, we’ve amassed a few tips and tricks for how to make awesome kabobs and we’d love nothing more than to share our knowledge with you so you can create a dish that’s sure to please. Been making kabobs your entire life? Never made a kabob before? There’s always something to learn and we’re here to help. Let’s get started! Here’s what you’ll need:
Step One: Buy Propane Tank
First of all, you’re going to want to make sure that you buy a propane tank if you’re running low because the worst thing is running out of fuel in the middle of a cook out! Not that we’re speaking from experience or anything…
If you’re wondering where to buy a propane tank, we can help you out. We have a number of propane tank exchange locations in the United States and we’re opening more regularly, so you can always have access to the propane you need to make your meal a success. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s do a bit of brainstorming before heading to the grocery store.
Step Two: Make a List
Here it is–the moment before the moment of truth, but the one on which everything hinges. That’s right. We’re talking about the decision making process. Deciding what kind of kabobs you’ll make might be incredible easy. Want something classic? Go for steak, onions, and bell peppers with a bit of worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, and you’ll be good to go. Thinking you’d rather try something a bit out of the box? Well that’s where it can get tricky.
The beauty of kabobs is that you can make them pretty much however you want. That can also be incredibly intimidating if you’re new to kabobs or if you’re feeling a bit indecisive. Here’s the good news though–with a bit of thought, we can pretty much guarantee that your kabobs will turn out just fine!
The one thing to keep in mind with your kabobs is that a good marinade is your best friend. This is where you can impart a ton of flavor without a lot of effort. Consider a few flavors that will complement your kabob the best and throw everything together in a bag. One common misconception is that you need to marinate your ingredients overnight, but whether you’re working on a schedule or not, an hour or so should be plenty of time to impart a boatload of delicious flavor.
Still not convinced? Not to worry, because in our next blog, we’ll go over a few of our favorite recipes and we’ll cover everything from traditional kabobs to kabobs that are a bit more experimental. Of course they’re all packed with plenty of flavor and they’re sure to be a hit with the whole family. Either way, the next step is to actually start grilling and this is the step where you’ll…
Step Three: Knock It Out of the Park!
This is the step where all of your preparatory work comes together into a delicious skewer of food that’s been perfectly seasoned and grilled to the ideal temperature, creating a meal that’s both satisfying and delightful.
As with anything that you’re grilling, the amount of time you grill and the temperature will play a large role in how everything turns out. This is where good research really pays off. Grilling with an unfamiliar ingredient? A quick internet search will reveal a few grilling methods that you can employ. It might feel a little bit intimidating to grill so many different ingredients at once. “How can steak and potatoes be grilled at the same time and both come out perfectly?” you wonder. Great question, but trust us when we say that more often than not, as long as you don’t end up with raw meat or a burnt mess, you’ll be just fine.
Step Four: Serve Your Kabobs to the Delight of Your Guests
Step four is to sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Maybe you have an entire yard full of people over. Maybe you’re just grilling for your family. Either way, this is where your hard work pays off. Trust us–it will be delicious!
That about wraps it up for this time, but like we mentioned above, be sure to tune in next time for a few kabob recipes that are sure to knock your socks off! See you then.
