We discussed in our previous blog that we believe that grilling isn’t something that should be reserved entirely for the summer. As a matter of fact, we think that fall is the perfect time of year to experiment a little bit and try something you might not make otherwise. In other words, summer is the time for burgers, brats, and hot dogs, but fall might be the time to experiment with grilling up some wings for the weekend’s football games.
The return of football is one of the best things about fall–in addition to finally being able to wear flannel shirts and hoodies–and we believe that people should do what they can to take advantage of the season while expanding their culinary horizons. We always say that when you buy a propane tank, you unlock a world of food possibilities and we believe that is particularly true in the fall. So what’s on the menu? Keep reading to find out!
Delicious Grilled Chicken Wings
Rather than forking out an arm and a leg for over-sauced buffalo wings from the nearest chain restaurant, we think that making them yourself is the way to go. That way you are directly in control of the amount of spice that goes into your food–not to mention the fact that you will also know exactly what’s in the food that you’re eating and that’s always a plus.
At Mighty Flame, we believe that grilling your wings adds in a whole new level of flavor complexity that just takes something that is already incredible (and incredibly good!) to entirely new dimensions. Try and see for yourself! Here’s what you’ll need:
- Chicken wings
- Butter
- Your favorite hot sauce (we love Frank’s Red Hot for this recipe, but others will work)
- Pepper
- Seasoned salt
- Garlic powder
- Onion powder
Before you begin, preheat your grill to medium heat for the best results. In the meantime, grab a pan to heat up your sauce and combine half a cup of your favorite hot sauce with a dash of garlic powder and an equal amount of onion powder. Add in about four tablespoons of butter. (Keep in mind that you can add more or less of any of these ingredients to tailor this recipe to better suit your tastes.) You can also add other flavors here to customize this recipe. We like adding everything from honey to cayenne pepper to a bit of fresh parsley. It’s entirely up to you!
However you opt to make your sauce, stir it frequently and make sure everything is well combined. Remove it from the heat when you’re done and set it aside.
Season Your Wings
Coat your wings in a bit of seasoned salt and pepper, tossing them gently to ensure that they are well-coated. At this point, your grill should be warm enough to start the grilling process. Place your wings closely together on the grill and flip every 5 or 6 minutes, cooking for 20-25 minutes total depending on the size of your chicken wings.
Once your wings are ready to go, toss your wings in the sauce mixture you created previously. Throw them back on the grill and cook for 3-5 minutes per side–just until everything starts to look crispy.
The final step is to drizzle your remaining sauce over your wings and then serve them with a side of ranch or bleu cheese. You could also grill up some potato wedges to go with these delicious grilled chicken wings. Take everything inside, turn on the game, and enjoy some spicy wings and a cool beverage. It really doesn’t get much better than this, does it?
