In our last blog, we shared a recipe for grilled lobster rolls with homemade chips on the side and it got us to thinking a little bit. We always say that when you buy a propane tank, you unlock a world of culinary possibilities. As much as we love sharing recipes for main dishes, sometimes it’s the sides that need to get the most attention and in today’s blog that’s exactly what we’d like to do.
Our simple recipe for grilled potato chips that we shared as a side dish for the previously mentioned lobster rolls is both simple to make and big on flavor, but there’s more than one way to skin a potato, as the saying goes, and in today’s blog, we’ll share a few of our favorite variations. Keep reading to get our suggestions!
Chips Three Ways
In our first recipe, we shared something simple and timeless–chips made with salt and pepper and a little bit of grated parmesan cheese. All we did was slice them thin and grill on a grilling pan for 4 to 5 minutes on each side before serving. These chips perfectly complement everything from a burger to grilled chicken. They’re easy to make and they are delicious, but what about when you want something a little different? We have you covered.
Buffalo Chips
For this recipe, you’ll prepare you potato slices the same as above. The variation comes when you’ll melt a bit of butter and add some buffalo sauce. We’re big fans of Frank’s Red Hot, but you can use any variety that suits you. Simply slice your potatoes and brush with the melted butter and buffalo sauce, then grill normally. These might take an extra minute or so to grill up perfectly.
Be sure to make plenty of these, because once you start popping them into your mouth, you’ll never want to stop! These go perfectly with a cheeseburger and a side of ranch dressing.
Sweet and Spicy Chips
Our Sweet and Spicy Chips are also prepared by thinly slicing your potatoes with a mandolin slicer and arranging them on your pan, but in this version, you’ll also be adding bit of melted butter along with a bit of honey. Be sure to mix your potato slices in honey butter thoroughly to coat both sides evenly, then grill up normally. Finish things off by adding a dash of cayenne pepper to the top. Add as little or as much as you like and enjoy!
These chips go perfectly with a classic grilled cheese sandwich and your soda of choice.
Savory Black Pepper Chips
For the final recipe that we’d like to share today, all you’ll do is grill your potato slices normally and add plenty of black pepper along with some oregano, thyme, and just a touch of dill. We also love adding just a bit of salt to help pull all of the flavors together perfectly. Trust us when we say that these few ingredients combine to create something truly incredible.
Serve our Savory Black Pepper Chips with brats for a perfect combination of flavors and textures. It’s almost like they were made for each other!
