Buy a Propane Tank and Start Cooking: Dinner Party Edition

Today’s recipe has everything you need to provide your guests with an entire meal. With a little bit of planning beforehand, everything is sure to go off without a hitch. Let’s get started!

On the menu today: red wine stuffed grilled pork chops with mushroom pan gravy, baked potatoes, and zesty corn on the cob.

The Night Before

The night before your party, you’ll be working on the gravy and marinating your pork chops. You’ll need flour, mushrooms, milk, butter, red wine, olive oil, and two cloves of garlic.

Start your pan gravy by making a simple roux. Never made a roux before? It’s easy! Just melt a few tablespoons of butter in a pan over medium heat. Add mushrooms and saute. (Set a handful of your sauteed mushrooms aside to use to stuff your pork chops tomorrow.) Add two more tablespoons of butter and stir in flour and add milk. Stir constantly until you end up with the consistency you’re looking for. If it’s your first time, go slow and you’ll be fine. To finish, season with salt and pepper. Allow your newly made gravy to cool, store in a container, and refrigerate until tomorrow.

For your pork chop marinade, combine 1 ¼ cups of red wine of your choice (cooking wine or table wine is just fine), two dashes of extra virgin olive oil, two cloves of minced garlic, and salt and pepper. Transfer to a resealable bag, add your pork chops, and let let your chops marinate overnight.

In the morning, remove your chops from the marinade, pat them dry with paper towels, and transfer them to the fridge to sit until you’re ready to grill.

Now that your prep work is done, you can move on to the fun part- grilling! Stay tuned for the next part in our “Buy a Propane Tank and Start Cooking” series on cooking for a dinner party!
