Father’s Day is just over a week away and chances are that you’re already brainstorming a few things to do for your dad to show him that you care. No matter what you’re getting him, whether it’s a pocket knife with his name engraved in the blade or a case of his favorite hot sauce (or you could also buy a propane tank for him to keep as a spare, of course), you’ll also likely want to treat your dad to some good food.

Your dad has given you so much, so why not give back a little? After all, he’s the one who grilled countless steaks, burgers, and brats for you while you were growing up. Luckily for you, the team at Mighty Flame is here to help you make this Father’s Day particularly special for the dad who’s always been there for you. So go buy a propane tank (or get your current propane tank refilled at one of our numerous locations) and then read on for our out of this world burger recipe that’s sure to show your dad that you care.

The Surf and Turf Burger

The idea of combining surf and turf isn’t something that’s new, but it’s not something that’s done often on a burger. Trust us when we say that this is a recipe that will totally knock the whole family’s socks off! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Ground beef
  • Raw shrimp
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Dill
  • Parsley
  • Paprika
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Lemon juice
  • Mayo
  • Hot sauce
  • Tomato slices
  • Your bun of choice

If that sounds like a lot of ingredients, don’t worry. The truth of the matter is that this recipe is actually incredibly simple to make. As a matter of fact, whether or not you’ve ever grilled before, we think you’ll be able to throw this meal together in no time at all. So let dad sit back and watch a baseball game, because you’re about to cook him one of the best meals he’s had in his life.

Preheat your grill to medium-high. In the meantime dice your garlic, combine with the ground beef, add a few dashes of worcestershire sauce, and form your burgers into ¼ lb to ⅓ lb patties. Season with salt and pepper. Grill these to your desired level of doneness.

You’ll also want to toss your shrimp on the grill. It may be helpful to use skewers to hold them all together, but one thing you’ll want to do for certain is make sure your grill’s grates are nice and oiled, ensuring that your shrimp don’t stick to the grill, ruining the meal altogether. Season your shrimp with paprika, lemon juice, and salt and pepper. Grill until cooked all the way through. You can also use this opportunity to lightly toast your buns (pro tip–brush the inside of your buns with a little bit of melted butter to knock the taste up a notch).

At this point you’ll want to allow everything to rest to ensure that your burgers are nice and juicy when you dig in.

While you wait for everything to rest, combine your favorite mayo with freshly chopped dill and your favorite hot sauce.

Pulling It All Together

Begin assembling your burgers, stacking your shrimp on top of the burger and garnishing the top bun with your spicy dill mayo and a slice of tomato to pull it all together. All that’s left to do now is open another drink for your dad and chow down, secure in the knowledge that you’ve made your dad a meal that the whole family will be talking about for years to come.

And it all started because you bought a propane tank for your dad! Not too shabby.

Of course you can also make changes to this recipe where necessary to better suit your family. For example, you could opt to forego the hot sauce in the mayo and instead opt for a bit of lemon zest to freshen things up. Or you could get rid of the burger altogether and make grilled shrimp sandwiches. The beauty of this recipe is that no matter who you are or what your family likes to eat, you can adapt it to suit you perfectly.
