As you well know, sometimes you just have a craving for something a little different than burgers and brats. Not that there’s anything wrong with having staple meals like that, of course! It’s just that every once in awhile you get a strong desire to try something new, and what better way to do that than with your trusty grill?
It’s with that idea in mind that we bring you today’s post in which we’d like to share even more unique grilling ideas that we think are absolutely out of the ordinary. Grilled Lobster
Depending on where you live in the country, eating lobster might either be a regular occurrence or something that you don’t do much of unless you’re visiting the coast. The good news is that either way, you can grill up a lobster and enjoy something completely out of the ordinary if you’re willing to do just a bit of extra work. Don’t let that overwhelm you though because the end result is something truly extraordinary.
This recipe for Grilled Lobster from Food and Wine is great because it keeps things simple. (Perhaps best of all is the fact that it comes from Chef Rebecca Charles who has family roots in Maine thanks to the fact that they’ve summered in Kennebunk for the last century). You might be thinking that grilled lobster isn’t particularly common and you’d be right; the article itself notes that the cooking method is “unorthodox” but that “the dry heat imbues the lobster meat with the taste of the shell, giving it a more complex, caramelized flavor.” That’s a win if you ask us!
All you have to do is follow the recipe which includes a basic butter sauce with variations including corn, tomato chive, and lemon chive, ensuring that you’re able to get the right flavor to suit your tastes.
One last bit of advice on this one. If you’re in an area where finding lobster is no easy feat, our advice is to check with your local butcher shop. If they can’t get lobster for you, chances are that they’ll be able to point you in the right direction. (Bonus tip: make friends with your local butcher because he or she will be able to take care of you for all of your meat-finding and enjoying needs.)
Grilled Peanut Butter and Nutella Sandwiches
If you’ve never had Nutella before, you’re missing out. As their website notes, Nutella is “the best hazelnut spread in the world” and we haven’t seen any evidence that would point to the contrary. It’s a wonderfully blissful experience to enjoy, and what better way to do just that than to combine it with some peanut butter? It’s a combination that was simply meant to be.
For this recipe, we turn to…well, us! Although many people have made this sandwich in the past, we’d like to advocate for taking advantage of our own unique twist on it which, of course, is throwing it on the grill.
A peanut butter sandwich is a wonderful thing on its own, but when you combine buttery toasted bread and warm and creamy peanut butter and Nutella, it’s out of this world. Simply lightly butter two slices of bread, then spread about two tablespoons each of peanut butter and Nutella, then grill until the outside of the sandwich is golden brown. This will take about two minutes on each side over medium high heat, but your grill may differ slightly so just keep your eye on it!
Finally, cut your sandwich in half (diagonally, of course!) and serve it with a cold glass of milk. There’s nothing better!
Grilled Cast Iron Honey Cornbread
When someone with as good of taste as Martha Stewart shares a recipe, you know it’s going to be great. When she’s sharing Emeril Lagasse’s recipe, you had better prepare yourself for something exceptional. That’s certainly the case with Emeril’s Cast-Iron Honey Cornbread. As the recipe itself says, “Here’s a great way to cook a whole meal outdoors: Make cornbread in a cast-iron skillet right on the grill, alongside your meat” and “don’t skip the honey-butter topping.”
We couldn’t agree more.
If you have been looking for new grilling ideas, there’s a good chance that the thought of grilling cornbread never even crossed your mind, but the cast iron skillet makes it a breeze. All you have to do is mix up the ingredients, pour it into the skillet, and grill for about 12 minutes. In the meantime, combine honey and butter for the glaze, then brush it on the warm cornbread. Let it all cool for about five minutes and it’s ready to go! Whether you make it as a side dish to the main course or just a little treat to enjoy, you’re sure to love this unique take on cornbread.
