If you’ve been following along with our series (called “Buy a Propane Tank and Start Cooking”), you’ve probably been thrilled with all of the great main dishes we’ve provided you with recipes for. As much as we love giving you great main courses, we decided that we should probably provide our readers with even more great recipes, this time for side dishes, that could also be easily thrown on the grill while you’re making your main course.
Our goal with our “Buy a Propane Tank and Start Cooking” series is to get those who are unfamiliar with their grills in the spirit to adventure out into the backyard and start making some delicious food. Many people are hesitant about grilling, assuming that it will be a difficult chore to master. Luckily for you, our blogs were designed specifically for those people.
In fact, all it takes is a bit of willingness to experiment. After all, the easiest way to get to know your grill is by actually spending some time using it.
It all starts with purchasing a propane tank, so grab yours from one of our locations and let’s get started!
More Great Side Dishes From Our Buy a Propane Tank and Start Cooking Series
In our last blog, we provided our readers with a delicious grilled honey-glazed potato wedge recipe that’s sure to knock the socks off of even the pickiest eaters. The ability to vary the recipe to each individual’s personal preference makes it a great one to have in your grilling arsenal, so if you haven’t seen it yet, head on over to that blog and then come back.
Today’s blog is about side dishes as well. Not everyone wants a potato with dinner (although they do, of course, make the perfect complement to any burger or chicken recipe), so first off, we’ll take a look at an incredibly simple recipe for grilled zucchini that everyone in the family will love.
Spicy Grilled Zucchini
Start by slicing your zucchinis into ¼” thick slices. It doesn’t have to be exact (and in fact, a bit of variation will make your grilled zucchini feel rustic), but they should all be roughly the same thickness.
Your grill should be heated to approximately medium heat.
It’s as simple as this- put your pieces of zucchini in a piece of tin foil, forming the shape of a rough bowl. From there, drizzle your zucchini pieces with some high quality extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle with salt, pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper. Don’t overdo it, but make sure you get plenty on there to add some incredible flavor.
Finish up with just a dash of nutmeg. It sounds weird, but trust us when we say that it totally makes this side dish what it is!
Close the top of your tin foil “bowl” and throw it on the grill. After about five minutes, open your bag of zucchini pieces, rearrange them, and then cook for another four or five minutes. This will ensure that your grilled zucchini stays nice and moist, trapping in flavor and making for an awesome side dish!
If, on the other hand, you prefer your grilled zucchini to have grill marks, forego the tin foil and place your pieces directly on the grill (make sure to oil your grill beforehand) and cook for about 4 minutes per side.
It’s as easy as that!
Easy Grilled Corn on the Cob
Some recipes for corn on the cob have you hauling out a massive pot and boiling water for what seems like hours. It doesn’t have to be that hard though. Here’s our recipe!
Heat your grill to medium. Grab your corn and peel the husk back. You might be tempted to pull the husk clean off, but simply peel it back, brush the corn on the cob with olive oil, season with a dash of salt and pepper, and set it aside. When each ear of corn is complete, place them on the grill. Turn every five minutes, cooking for a total of twenty minutes.
Remove your corn on the cob from the grill and allow to cool before pulling off the husks. What you’re left with is delicious pre-seasoned, perfectly cooked corn on the cob.
Serve with plenty of butter.
A quick note on the butter. You can also heat one stick of butter over medium heat on your stove and saute in a few cloves of garlic. Season with cayenne pepper and onion powder and brush onto your corn. It’s a simple step, but it really makes the corn a complete delight to eat!
